ESOL Introductory - (SCQF Level 3 Evening)

Our ESOL Courses allow you to develop your:

  • Speaking skills,
  • Listening skills,
  • Reading skills,
  • Writing skills,

You will also develop your knowledge of Grammar, Vocabulary and Use of English, in work and everyday situations.

This introductory course will help you take the first steps to develop your English skills, with a focus on everyday life, work and study.  There is no exam or assessment - just an opportunity to meet new people and improve your language skills in a supportive learning environment. We will actively encourage you to challenge yourself to even greater levels of fluency, but we totally appreciate that each student does so at their own pace.

We want you to enjoy your learning as an active participant – especially as you are just starting out on the road to fluency in spoken English - and we encourage you to bring your own ideas and interests into the learning environment. This vibrant and dynamic approach to your studies, will inspire you to even greater heights in the classroom.

The course is delivered over 2 hours in the evening and class sizes have are a maximum of 20 students.

Please note that English is spoken at all times in class.

Important Information for all non UK nationals

The College has a requirement to complete a residency check on all non-UK nationals for tuition fee purposes. When you book and pay for your course online, please be aware that you will be contacted by a member of our Student Administration team and asked to provide documents i.e. a copy of your passport; proof of your settlement status and EU share code.

Following assessment of evidence, if you do not meet the criteria for ‘home fee status’, you will contacted and advised of any additional fee required.

EU Nationals

If you are currently living in the UK then you should have already applied for the EU Settlement Scheme which will allow you to continue living in the UK. 

From 1st January 2021, if you are a national of a country outwith the UK it is most likely you will need a visa to study in the UK.  You can check if you require a visa by visiting the UK Government’s website here.  If you require a student visa, further information can be obtained at the following link.

  • 1 SQA Unit at SCQF Level 2 or 3

  • Our SQA accredited courses allow you the opportunity to gain certification at your level of English to take to employers or other education providers.  

  • Successful completion of the course could lead to entry to another level ESOL course.
  • Progression to other courses within Forth Valley College.
  • Progression to other education providers. 

  • An initial assessment is given by a member of the College's ESOL team on application to ascertain your level of English. 

 

Course places are only secured after payment/funding has been arranged

As per the College Tuition Fees and Refund Policy, tuition fees are non-refundable except under exceptional circumstances.

 

Student Paying

Fees of less than £150 must be paid in full. Payment by instalment is available, provided the course fee is greater than £150.

Instalments must be paid via direct debit over a 4-month period and an initial 30% deposit is required in order to secure your place. You will not be able to apply online if paying by direct debit, you must contact Evening Admissions by email at - eveninginfo@forthvalley.ac.uk

 

Employer Paying

If your employer is paying for your tuition fees, an Employers Agreement form or letter from your employer must be submitted prior to or on enrolment. You can access the Employer Agreement form here and this should be returned to evening admissions -eveninginfo@forthvalley.ac.uk

Refunds will only be given if the course is cancelled or significantly altered by the College. Please refer to our Tuition Fee and Withdrawal procedure for further information.

 

Fee waiver

Some students may be eligible for a tuition fee waiver if in receipt of certain types of benefits. Fee waiver evidence must be submitted either before or on enrolment. Refer to our Tuition and Fee Waiver Policy for further information.

ITA funding

This course is eligible for ITA funding. You may be eligible if you are:

  • Aged 16 or over
  • Not in education or involved in any other SDS funded programme
  • Unemployed and looking to get back into work
  • Employed and earning less than £22,000 per year
  • Resident in Scotland

If you wish to use ITA funding towards the cost of this course, you must first apply for the ITA funding through the My World of Work website. ITA funding will cover up to £200 of course fees.

You will not be able to enrol for your course online if using ITA funding. Once you’ve applied for funding, you will receive a confirmation email from SDS and the college with instructions on how to book your course.
