Forth Valley College’s celebrated degree and diploma art exhibition is well underway at the Stirling Campus – and crowds have been flocking in to see the innovative artwork on display.
College Principal Kenny MacInnes officially opened the show at a private event on the evening of Thursday 30 May, and invited members of the public, students and staff to check out work from the next generation of artists from the College’s Creative Industries Department.
The free exhibition will be open to the public on Monday 3 June 10am-4pm, Tuesday 4 June 10am-8.30pm, Wednesday 5 June 10am-4pm and Thursday 6 June 10am-4pm.
The show highlights a wide range of media including art, design, photography, sculpture, installation, video and audio created by learners from the BA Art and Design (2nd and 3rd Years), HND Contemporary Art Practice (2nd Years),Visual Communications (2nd Years), HND Photography (2nd Years) and HND Art and Design (2nd Years), as well as highlighting the talent of students across courses in media and communication and sound production.
Here’s a wee selection of work to look out for:
Liz Moffat HND Art and Design – she is absolutely loving the course and is really looking forward to next year. She has always been into textiles and knitted materials, and has enjoyed exploring different elements in the class and likes to use sustainable materials. One piece is made up of old hiking gear that she and her husband used to use on their adventures.
Marina McLaren BA Art and Design Year 3 – Marina has created work using digital cut out stop motion style animation. She has pushed herself this year and explored something a bit different than her texture/lighting piece from last year. Marina has loved creating characters, stories and using her photos for textured background for her piece. She is excited to see what happens next year and hopes to take the animation process further.
Rhiannon Cove BA Art and Design Year 3 - Has created Coloured Pencil Animal portraits to depict Endangered Scottish Animal Portraiture. She has collaborated with the World Wildlife Fund and Scottish Wildlife Trust to fundraise and promote awareness for nature and wildlife. Rhiannon always loved working with coloured pencils and this project has helped her develop her craft while doing something good for the endangered Scottish species. She has started her own animal portraiture business on the side along with her course.
Saimah Iqbal BA Art and Design Year 3 – is showing off her pattern creation for textiles and wallpapers and has specialised in digital print for textiles. She did her HNC and HND at Glasgow Clyde College and came to Forth Valley College for her degree because of our industry connections. Saimah has enjoyed her time here but hasn’t decided whether to do her Honours or not.
Ashley Forsyth’s BA Art and Design Year 3 – has an innovative and satirical take on portraiture. She places modern faces on the bodies of traditional art portraits. Her work has raised a few eyebrows and is well worth viewing at the show.
