Forth Valley College’s second annual Staff Awards unveiled its winners at a well-attended evening ceremony held on Tuesday 31 May at the Falkirk Campus Antonine Suite.
The event was hosted by BBC Presenter Amy Irons – who hosted last year’s inaugural awards which was broadcast online due to lockdown restrictions - and featured a keynote speech from College Principal Professor Ken Thomson OBE.
Sponsors of the awards were: Claremont Office Furniture; Campbells Prime Meat Ltd; Forth Valley Chamber of Commerce; Graham’s the Family Dairy; Mark Murphy Food Service (Part of the Total Produce Group); and Roundabout Executive Travel.
An expert judging panel were impressed with the winners for each of the six categories with the excellent range of staff success this year, a variety of deserved nominations and the universally agreed sentiment that every single staff member deserved an award, after the tremendous efforts over the last year during the pandemic.
However, after much deliberation the winners were as follows:
- Colleague of the Year
Lisa Hachemi
- Team of the Year
DYW Forth Valley
- Innovation Award
Student Journey Project Team
- Inspiration Award
Kerstin Doig
- Community Support Award
Westfield Community Garden Project Team
- Improving Health and Wellbeing Award
Martin Murray
The awards were launched last year as a result of a request from the College’s ‘Listening to Employees’ group, with some members then being given the opportunity to shape the event along with the College’s Communications and Marketing Team.
The event received fantastic feedback last year and staff were keen to see it continue.
Professor Ken Thomson OBE, Principal of Forth Valley College, said: “I would like to congratulate all our winners, each and every one of them thoroughly deserve their success after another challenging year. It was a great event – hosted perfectly by a great friend of the college, Amy Irons - and just brilliant to be able to celebrate the fantastic efforts and achievements of staff in person at a live ceremony, rather than online.
“Everyone who has been nominated has gone above and beyond in my view to provide support, advice and expertise to their students, colleagues, peers and I am proud of everything they continue to do in their roles here at Forth Valley College.
“I am constantly amazed at the professionalism, dedication, expertise and talent that my colleagues exhibit on a day to day basis here at the College and I am sure the judges must have had a very hard job to choose the winners in each category. A big well done to everyone who has managed to win tonight and to everyone who was nominated in what has been a very worthwhile awards event.”
